Online interactive
portal for food

An online interactive portal for food service workers where they can register themselves for food worker course, learn in their preferred language, get certified, and print own bar-coded food worker card for employability in Washington state.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone … for their enormous effort over the last several days. The migration of the food worker app went smoothly, and more importantly, quickly. Once again, a sincere thank you to each of you for your effort. What a great team!

Program Manager, Washington-based organization

All food service workers must have a food worker card to be eligible for working in Washington State, per one of the Washington Administrative Codes.

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) was, however, offering the food worker course in the TPCHD premises. The potential candidates had to go to the department and use a stationed computer kiosk to complete the online training and test, or attend an in-person class.

The candidates were finding this entire process time-consuming. Moreover, the department officials were also struggling to deliver the cards in time.

The TPCHD was looking for an online portal to manage the training and test smoothly.

Any product, service or solution can only be successful when it serves the purpose perfectly and provides a wonderful user experience too. In this scenario, food workers were having a tough time, and so were the TPCHD officials.

The portal was the need of that hour. At a broader level, the portal required Learning and Assessment capabilities with less overheads and hassles. Also, it needed to make the learning and certification process easier for users coming from diverse backgrounds.

Vidyatech developed the portal that enables the food workers to learn and take tests online from anywhere in any of these languages- English, Cambodian, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. On successful completion, the food workers can pay online and print their own bar-coded food worker cards from anywhere at any time.

Now, the department officials can also manage users more efficiently. With the portal, once painful process was turned into simple and effective learning experience.

  • The portal is a win-win for candidates as well as the department.
  • Over 80% candidates now opt for online learning and certification.
  • 33% drop in assessment time, from 90 minutes to 60 minutes.
  • Significant savings for candidates and reduced administrative costs for TPCHD.
